P3P Support on Summize

There is an ever increasing awareness of how much of our lives are captured and stored.  Web sites track usage for a variety of reasons, for example on Summize we track usage, so we can fix bugs and improve the site. Web site usage tracking is not likely to change as sites depend on these logs to keep their systems running, fix problems, fight fraud and deal with many other issues.

Most of us never think about what is being collected or how how it will be used.  At Summize we think it is important that you understand what is being collected and how it is used. For that reason we have added P3P support to our site.  In this post I am going to address three questions about P3P:

  1. What is P3P and why should I care?
  2. How do you use it?
  3. What is the adoption of P3P on the Internet?

Summize: Now with more Cowbell

The last time we announced a new feature was in August. But that isn’t our newest feature; as Jay mentioned last week we’ve been quite busy in the intervening months. The amount of sentiments and reviews on the internet is astounding and we’ve been working to integrate all those we find. For example do a search for "iPhone" and you’ll notice there are now different types of reviews including bloggers and experts.

Other examples to try include "Sony Cybershot" or "Icky Thump." From there you can click on the blogger links to read the full blog posts.

And you can add your own reviews for various items by clicking on the plus sign:

Stay tuned as we add more cowbell over the next few weeks.

The Reluctant Bloggers

My friends often ask why we don't update this blog more frequently.  I don't have a good answer for this.  Like many other entrepreneurs we are deep in the trenches perfecting our technology, observing trends, monitoring competition, looking for top talent, putting out fires, etc. etc. etc.  This is a lame excuse especially when there are freaks of nature like this entrepreneur blogger.

After having gained new insights into "review aggregation," "review data mining" and blog reviewers I think it's time to share our findings and future direction more openly as others in our field have done.  We owe this level of transparency to interested Summize readers who are keenly tracking our progress.

Starting today we will religiously update this blog on a more regular basis.
